Research Interests:

Alex's research broadly focuses on the emotional experiences of people with mental health conditions. His graduate research examined how people with borderline personality disorder perceive emotional facial expressions and how they use different strategies to manage their emotions. Following his dissertation, he studied emotion regulation in daily life using smartphone-based experience sampling at the University of Virginia as a postdoctoral fellow. He is now currently integrating this experience at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health with the intention of developing new mobile interventions.
